Our work with the BC Coroner Service
Being an independent licensed mortuary facility that does not serve the public, we offer sheltering of human remains and toxicology services to the BC Coroner Service. This helps ensure that individuals in our region are given proper care during the time they are under the custody of the BC Coroner Service and until the person with the right to control the disposition of human remains has contracted a funeral home to authorize transport out of our facility.
We also provide this service so that families have time to organize themselves and find the funeral home most appropriate for them to use. Families are not charged anything while an individual is in our facility under the custody of the BC Coroner Service.

Because of privacy laws, we are unable to provide you any information about a person being sheltered at our facility. The executor or legal next of kin will need to contact the BC Coroner Service office to be provided information. The next step after that should be to contact a funeral home to look after the burial or cremation. Part of the funeral home documents will include an authorization to transport the person out of whatever BC Coroner Services Facility they are currently in. There are several locations used by the BC Coroner Service for their investigation and people do get moved from site to site.
